Celebrating April Fool’s Day
April Fool’s Day is almost here. Our cat, Tatty, will be 17 years old on April Fool’s Day. (That’s Tatty, soaking wet and enjoying his newest favorite activity.)
Besides celebrating Tatty’s birthday, we’ve always had fun pulling off the requisite hoaxes on April Fool’s Day.
Jeffrey just reminded me how he marked the holiday a couple of different times. He came home from school looking despondent. With his head down, he announced that he had gotten a zero for not turning in a report on time. Or that he’d failed a test. (Neither occurrence was uncommon in those days.)
Then he made the usual excuses, which only added to our visible disappointment.
“The teacher never said she was giving a test today,” or “I thought the report was due next week.”
After a few minutes of offering the same-old no mea culpas, he paused as if to collect his thoughts. Then, he yelled, “April Fool’s!” as he jumped up and down, laughing with total, “Gotcha!” delight.
Jeffrey is coming home tomorrow, to watch the NCAA’s with Franny and to have dinner with us. I’m going to ask him if he remembers some of the other April Fool’s pranks of note in our family.
In the meantime, here’s a laugh. Check out this compilation of 100 Top April Fool’s Hoaxes. Some of them are hilarious.
